The Zodiac series began in South Korea with a chance encounter.

While travelling, I met a German tattoo artist whose body was almost entirely covered in tattoos. Her confidence and striking appearance inspired me to create Scorpio, the first illustration of the series. Instead of relying on traditional zodiac imagery, I wanted to capture the energy of a real person I had met.

As my journey continued, so did the project.

Each new zodiac character drew inspiration from people I encountered around the world. Their personalities, styles and stories became the starting point for reimagining the twelve signs through fantasy illustration and character design. Tattoos became the visual thread connecting the collection, turning every character into both a symbolic representation of a zodiac sign and a tribute to the people who unknowingly influenced my work.

Looking back, this series taught me that inspiration doesn't always come from imagination alone. Sometimes it comes from the conversations we have, the places we visit and the strangers we meet along the way.

Commercial Intent

The Zodiac series was also one of my first attempts to think about illustration as a product. Each sign offered a clear theme, a built-in audience, and the possibility of creating a cohesive collection for prints, apparel, phone cases, and other merchandise. It taught me to think beyond individual artwork and start considering series, consistency, audience targeting, and how an illustration could live across different formats.
